# Truvo API

The Truvo API lets your product start an insurance quote request and read back the quotes. You send the applicant's facts once. Truvo gets the quotes in the background, and you read the result when it's ready.

You can build against the sandbox before your organization is approved. Live traffic needs Truvo's approval.

## How a quote request works

A quote request is asynchronous. You start it, Truvo does the work, and you read the result.

#### Check what your key can do

`GET /v1/capabilities` returns the line, the environment, a JSON Schema of the facts the line requires, and the action types your key can use.

#### Start a quote request

`POST /v1/quote-requests` takes the facts for one line. The API answers with `202` and a quote request in the `queued` status.

#### Wait for the result

Read the quote request until its status is final. The `Prefer: wait` header holds each read open for up to 20 seconds, so you don't need a tight polling loop.

#### Read the quotes

Each quote gives the price, the coverage, the availability, the next actions, and the evidence.

## What the API covers today

* **Lines:** personal auto, renters, and pet.
* **Pet** is quote plus a hand-off to the carrier. Pet carriers sell on their own sites, so the customer buys there and Truvo doesn't learn the result. Each pet quote returns a `continue_on_carrier_site` action with a link to open in a new tab.
* **Purchase:** the API doesn't have the purchase operations yet.

## Get help

Every error response has a `request_id` that starts with `req_`. Include it when you contact Truvo support.
