# Request a callback

POST https://api.truvo.com/v1/callback_requests
Content-Type: application/json

Also available as the MCP tool [request_callback](https://docs.truvo.com/api-reference/mcp/request-callback).

Reference: https://docs.truvo.com/api-reference/request-callback

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Your Truvo API key, sent as a bearer token. The prefix selects sandbox (trv_sandbox_) or live (trv_live_).

## Request

### Headers

- `Truvo-Version` (enum, required, default: 2026-09-26) — The contract revision of this request, which every operation in this document requires. This document describes 2026-09-26. Served revisions: 2026-09-26. A missing header, or one that names no served revision exactly, answers `invalid_version` (400), and its field error lists the served revisions in `allowed_values`, newest first.
  - Allowed values: `2026-09-26`

### Body (application/json)

This endpoint expects a CallbackRequestCommand.

- `phone` (string, required) — The number Truvo should call, a US number a person can answer.
- `name` (string, optional) — The person's name, when they gave one.
- `reason` (string, optional) — Why the person wants a call, in their words.
- `quote_request_id` (string, optional) — The quote request the person wants help with, when they have one.
- `line` (enum, optional) — The line the person is asking about, when they named one.
  - Allowed values: `personal_auto`, `renters`, `pet`
- `state` (string, optional) — The US state the person is asking about, when they named one.

## Response

### 201

Queue a call back to the person on the staffed advisor line. Truvo folds a repeat ask for the same number into the open callback.

- `id` (string, required) — The ID of this callback request.
- `status` (enum, required) — queued is a new request. already_queued means this number already had an open callback, and Truvo folded this ask into it.
  - Allowed values: `queued`, `already_queued`

### ErrorEnvelopeError

What went wrong, and what to do next.

- `code` (string, required) — What went wrong. New codes can arrive in any revision, so give any switch on it a default branch.

- `retry_action` (RetryAction, required) — What to do next, as a type and a summary.
- `doc_url` (string, required) — A link to the docs for the code. It opens the table of error codes.

- `format` (string, optional) — The expected format of the value, when known.
- `did_you_mean` (string, optional) — A close value the caller may have meant.

### RetryAction

- `type` (enum, required) — What to do next. Switch on it: a new value comes only in a new revision.
  - Allowed values: `none`, `retry`, `correct_input`, `supply_facts`, `read_status`, `use_new_request_key`, `wait`, `contact_support`
